PEAK-HOUR ELECTRICITY CHANGES – WHAT SHOULD BUSINESSES DO?

From April 22, 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Trade officially implemented new regulations on peak, off-peak, and normal operating hours for Vietnam’s national power system. Under the new framework, peak hours will apply from Monday to Saturday, between 5:30 PM and 10:30 PM (5 hours/day), while Sundays will not include peak-hour pricing.

However, for businesses operating continuously 24/7 — such as cold storage facilities, manufacturing plants, and production lines that cannot easily adjust operating schedules — electricity cost pressure is expected to increase significantly. Power consumption during evening peak hours is often unavoidable, leaving businesses highly dependent on the grid at higher electricity rates.

In reality, many rooftop solar systems today have not fully optimized their efficiency, as solar generation is concentrated during daytime hours when electricity demand is relatively lower, while demand rises sharply in the evening. As a result, investing in Solar without energy storage limits the overall efficiency and economic value of the system.
